Quality – Certificates
Halva has in recent years made significant efforts in improving the quality of the company’s operations. We consider impeccable quality as one of the most important competition factors. In recognition of the long-term business development Inspecta granted the ISO 9001 quality certificate. The certificate encompasses the company’s entire business. In 2004 Inspecta granted the ISO 14001 environmental certificate. The certificate covers all activities at both the Helsinki and Vantaa facilities.
In 2013 Inspecta granted the ISO 22000 product safety certificate. This certificate is to guarantee a high level of product safety.
Halva has made continuous work and efforts in the field of product safety management. Our product safety fulfils even tighter technical standards nowadays. Therefore Halva has been granted the product safety certificate of a higher level, namely FSSC 22000 in June 2015.
In 2020 Halva received an ISO 28000 certification for its Supply Chain Security Management system. The certification entails the warehousing, dispatch, office and outlet activities in Vantaa.
In 2021 the company was awarded the high level BRC-product safety certificate, which replaced the earlier received FSSC 22000 certificate.
These certifications show that Halva is committed to the continuous improvement and development of the business operations in order to achieve better quality and that product safety and environmental considerations are of paramount importance to the company.
Responsibility
We have a responsible way of doing things at the heart of family entrepreneurship. For us, responsibility means a profitable long-term business, a strong commitment from the owners to the day-to-day work of the company, pride in our own work, taking care of our employees, long-term employment relationships and paying taxes in Finland. Raw materials and packaging materials are only purchased from ethically and socially responsible suppliers.
The best licorice in the world is made in Finland because licorice is produced in an ethically sustainable way: the products are of high quality and safe. The same goes for all the sweets we make. The background is the value world of family entrepreneurship embraced by the entire staff.
Halva is therefore a socially responsible company.
Responsibility – 25% smaller carbon footprint
We invest in sustainable development by reducing emissions, using more environmentally friendly packaging materials and improving waste recycling by:
• We increase the efficiency of plastic use by increasing the use of recyclable plastic.
• We will reduce the use of traditional plastics by switching to wood-based, carbon-neutral plastics.
• We have completely abandoned the use of palm oil due to rainforests being cleared to make room for oil palm plantations.
• Production by-products are made into feed for pigs.
Last year, we took a number of significant measures to reduce energy consumption.
These measures have reduced the confectionery plant’s carbon footprint by about 25 percent. Through good work and responsible practices, the world’s best licorice and salty sweets (salmiac) are produced in Finland.
In 2022, we will take measures to reduce our carbon footprint by another 15-20%. Our goal is that by 2025, our business will be completely carbon neutral.
Sustainable development measures
• We use only 100% renewable electricity.
• We have reduced our use of plastics by at least 8 tonnes through the measures we have already taken. Work to reduce plastic continues.
